# Reset a password for your account, email or database

Lost a password? Find the login you need below. You can do most resets yourself.

## Before you start

- Know which login you lost: your Get Simple account, an email mailbox, a database user, an FTP account, or your WordPress or Joomla admin.
- For your Get Simple account, have access to the email address on the account.
- For everything else, sign in to your Get Simple account first. See [Sign in to your Get Simple account](/knowledgebase/sign-in/).
- New passwords in your control panel need at least 10 characters, with one lowercase letter, one uppercase letter, one number and one special character.

## Your Get Simple account

1. Open https://billing.getsimple.net.
2. Select **Reset My Password**. (Don't remember your username? Select **Forgot My Username** instead.)
3. Enter your account email.
4. Use the message we send to set a new password.

## Your control panel

You don't need a separate password. In your Get Simple account, open **Services** and click the dropdown arrow at the far right of your hosting row. Under **Options**, select **Login to Control Panel**. Your control panel opens in a new tab, already signed in. See [How to open your control panel](/knowledgebase/open-hosting-panel/).

## An email mailbox

1. Open your control panel.
2. Open **Emails**.
3. Open the three-dot menu next to the address and select **Manage**.
4. On the **Mailbox** tab, next to **Password**, click **Reset**.
5. In the form that opens, enter a **New password** and select **Save**. **Save** stays dimmed until the password meets the rules shown on screen.
6. Update the password on your phone and in your mail app too.

## A database user

1. Open your control panel, then **Websites**, and select your site.
2. Open **Databases**, then the **Users** tab.
3. Open the three-dot menu next to the user and select **Manage**.
4. Next to **Password**, select **Reset**.
5. Enter a **New password** and select **Change password**.
6. Update the password in your app's settings (for WordPress, wp-config.php; for Joomla, configuration.php).

More on databases: [MySQL and MariaDB databases on your hosting plan](/knowledgebase/mysql-on-your-hosting-plan/).

## An FTP account

1. Open your control panel, then **Websites**, and select your site.
2. Open **Advanced**, then **FTP**.
3. Open the three-dot menu on the account's row and select **Manage**.
4. Next to **Password**, click **Reset**. Enter a **New password** and select **Save**.
5. Update the password in your FTP program.

## Your WordPress or Joomla admin

These passwords live in your site, not in your control panel.

- WordPress: on your site's login page, select **Lost your password?** and follow the email.
- Joomla: on your site's login page, select **Forgot your password?** and follow the email.

No reset email? Check your spam folder, then open a ticket from [Get Help](/knowledgebase/get-help/).

## FAQ

### Do I need a password for the control panel?

No. **Login to Control Panel** in your Get Simple account signs you in for you.

### Is there a MySQL root password?

No. You get your own database users, not root on the database server. Reset the database user's password instead.

### I reset my email password and my phone stopped getting mail. Why?

Your phone still has the old password. Enter the new one in your mail app's account settings.
